About

It's Minecraft!

Yep, I run a Minecraft server. It's a forge server with several mods, but it's fairly close to Vanilla. I don't like to change things too much, and I think Vanilla Minecraft basically kicks ass already.

Below are several clickable options - they should be fairly self-descriptive. Just click on one to expand it and get started!

Special Features (README)

Here are the highlights of the mods on this server! There are quite a few surprises in store that you can spoil by reading the full mod list. But everything you need to know is here:

  • Use J to open a minimap of all the places you've explored before! This also has lots of neat options for showing where you last died, what biome you're in, etc. I recommend messing with the settings to your liking. (This is not shared between players, it's all local)
  • An online map of the server! This updates as people build, and will show you everything on the server.
  • Sort your inventory! If you installed the optional mods, then you can sort your inventory or any chest in a logical way by clicking the Z or other buttons. There are also a boatload of other features in Inventory Profile Next that you can discover by messing with the settings. (It's essentially undocumented unfortunately).
  • Corpses! This is nicer than it sounds - if you die, your corpse remains and you can go get your stuff easily. These get stored for a whole friggin week and can only be accessed by you, so your stuff is safe.
  • Falling trees! As soon as you cut a tree down with an axe, the whole thing comes down. No more climbing into trees to punch all the wood.
  • A shitload of furniture! Physically throw wood onto a stone cutter to get planks, then get to crafting!
  • A better recipe book! Using Just Enough Items, you can see the recipe for anything you like very easily - no unlocking required.
  • More lighting! Tons of additional recipes thanks to Macaw's Lights and Lamps that are all crafted like any other Vanilla item.
  • Be a vegetarian! You can make vegan leather with 4 mushrooms, so now you can make everything without killing cows!

There's a ton more but that should get you through the initial stuff. Go ahead and log on now!!

Installation tutorial

There are many possible ways of installing Minecraft, Forge, and all of the required mods. If you already have a method you're comfortable with, then go ahead and do that. All of the resources are above.

However, if you're not familiar with the ins and outs of getting modded Minecraft up and running, then the below guide should get you connected! It should take about 10 minutes. I've followed this guide myself from a fresh install, so it should work. I've only verified this on Windows, however, so Mac/Linux users may need to improvise some.

  1. Download and Install
    1. Download Minecraft from the official website. If you don't already own it, you'll need to buy it - I'm not allowing cracked versions of Minecraft on at this moment since I don't want hacked clients to join either.
    2. Download at least the Forge Installer and Required Mods from the "Details/Downloads" section above. I also recommend getting the Optional mods, as they add several nice features.
    3. Run the Minecraft Launcher installer to install the Launcher. This is a platform that will download and install various versions of Minecraft, which we'll only sort-of be using.
  2. Install Forge and Launch the Game
    1. The Minecraft Launcher should run once the installation is complete. Log in with your Microsoft account (you have almost certainly connected it to your Mojan account if you've played in the last 3-4 years).
    2. Close the Minecraft launcher
    3. Run the Forge Installer (forge-1.20.1-47.1.43-installer.jar) and install the client.
      • If the .jar file doesn't run for any reason, I recommend running Jarfix which should fix problems and prompt you to download the Java Runtime Environment if needed
    4. Re-open the Minecraft Launcher.
    5. Click Minecraft: Java Edition on the left side, then Installations at the top.
    6. Hover over the Forge installation and click "Play" to start Minecraft. This may take several minutes to download and launch - that's okay.
    7. Exit Minecraft.
  3. Install the Mods and optional Shader
    1. Again in the Launcher, go to the "Installations" tab, hover over the Forge installation and click the folder icon to open up the folder this installation is in.
    2. In this folder, open the "mods" folder.
    3. Unzip the Required Mods (clientmods.zip) into this folder.
    4. (OPTIONAL) Unzip the Optional Mods (clientoptional.zip) into the mods folder as well.
    5. (OPTIONAL) If you installed the optional mods, you can install the shaders too. Go back up a folder to ".minecraft", create a new "shaderpacks" folder, and drop the contents of "shaderscomp.zip" into the new folder.
  4. Connect to the server
    1. Go back to the Launcher, and launch the Forge installation a second time
    2. Go to Multiplayer, click Proceed, then click Add Server
    3. Name it whatever you like, and paste in the IP Address 142.4.222.247:25601, then click Done
    4. If you haven't already gotten whitelisted by me, DM me or talk to me on Stream
    5. The new server should appear - you can connect now! You're done!

Not bad, right? And like I said, there are other ways of doing this. If you're feeling spicy, you can try GDLauncher or the one I use, MultiMC. If you play on multiple Minecraft Servers, these are your best options for maintaining different installations. I recommend GDLauncher for beginners, and MultiMC if you're comfortable with troubleshooting and want a simpler interface.

And before you go, make sure to check out the feature list above to get a sense of what special features the server has! There are quite a few things it would probably be nice to know before you start.
